FORMAT, RULES and SCORING:

FORMAT:

We will play 3 rounds of golf, one each day Friday through Sunday.

Each round will consist of 2 teams of 12 players each.

Traditionally we have played one round of 2-Man Scramble and a Fourball, followed by singles on Sunday.

See formats explained below.

The final round will be played as 12 Singles matches.

The holder of the trophy needs 12 (or less if we field less than 12 players any day) points to retain the AJ Trophy and any team amassing more than 12 points will be crowned champions.

Please note that we will use the white tee boxes all three days!

FRIDAY AT THE ARB:

2-Man Scramble

Two pairs play against one another.  Each member of the pair makes his tee shot, then the pair chooses which ball to play and picks up the other ball.  Both players then play their 2nd shot from the spot of the tee shot they chose, and again choose which 2nd shot to play and pick up the other ball.  This continues until the ball is holed out, and the pair with the lowest raw score on the hole wins the hole.  Any hole that is tied is halved.  Any match that is tied after 18 holes is halved.  Each pair must play each member's tee shot minimum 6 times during the match.

Calculation Method for Team Handicap on 2 Man Scramble in ARB

1. Individual handicaps will be taken as a whole number.

(less than 0.5 to be rounded down, 0.5 or greater to be rounded up.)

2. the team handicap will be a sum of the two whole numbered individual handicaps.

3. the number of strokes to be given will be 25% of the team handicap difference.

4. in case the result of 3. becomes a decimal number it shall be rounded.

(as it can only be a XX.5 it will be rounded up to XX+1.)

For example,

Team WEST : Gunnar (17.9) & C. Holmes (21.9) will be a team of 18 & 22, so total 40.

Team EAST : Kimmy (13.2) & Agata (20.1) will be a team of 13 & 20, a total 33.

Numbers of strokes shall be calculated as (40-33) x 25%.

(40-33) x 25% = 1.75 and this will be rounded up to 2.

So team EAST will give 2 strokes to team WEST.

If we need to use Mr. Par the rules are as follows:

 1.  DK tees off, and then decides whether he will use “MPO (Mr. Par Option)”.

  1. 2. At a hole where DK declares to use “Mr. Par Option” (hereunder MPO), the team

score for Team East will be Par or DK’s own score if he scores better than par.

MPO has to be utilized min 6 times / max 12 times.

  1. 3. For the holes where DK does not use MPO, DK can always hit twice from his 2nd

shot onwards.  The team score for Team East for such holes will be DK’s score only.

The number of holes DK plays as “non MPO hole”, is min 6 times / max 12 times.

A total of 6 points are up for grabs.

SATURDAY AT THE ARB:

Fourball

All four players play their own ball. The team whose player has the lowest score wins the hole. If the teams tie, they halve the hole. The team that wins the match receives one point, and if the teams tie they each get 1/2 point.

Each match is played off the lowest handicapped player in that group of four.  Handicaps are rounded to the nearest whole number (e.g 12.4 and lower = 12, 12.5 and higher = 13).  So a group with an 8, a 12, a 17 and a 25 handicapper plays off the player with the 8 hcp so the other players receives 4, 9 and 17 strokes respectively from the lowest handicapper, starting from index 1.  We are using 100% of the handicaps and we are not adjusting for the slope or rating of the course played.

A total of 6 points are up for grabs.

SUNDAY AT THE ARB:

Singles

Players compete in match play head-to-head. The best score per hole wins that hole and tied holes are halved. The player who wins the match earns one point for his team.   Ties are worth 1/2 point to each team.

Two players from each team will go head to head based on their rounded handicaps.  The higher handicapped player will receive the number of shots that his handicap is higher than his opponent.  Again, he will receive the shots as one shot per hole starting with index 1, counting until he has received the  allotted number of shots

A total of 12 points are up for grabs.

Points:

There are (hopefully) a total of 24 matches and available points. The team with the most cumulative points at the end of the tournament wins. If the teams tie (12 vs.12) the team that last won the tournament retains the DK trophy.

Pairings:

The 2 captains will do the pairing prior to the game on Friday.  Pairings are done by one captain calling a name and the other matching that name.  The captains will alternate in calling the names and the first to go is decided by a coin toss.

The consequent pairings will be done at dinner on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Every player must submit their official handicap in effect 1 April 2023 to Tommy at tommyson@ptttrading.com.  Please copy Gunnar at gunb@equinor.com, Sean at sean.hwang@clarksons.com and Magnus at m.arnesen@fearnleys.com by 5 April, 2023.

Rules:

If you need to freshen up on your grip of the rules of golf, please read at the following link:

http://www.randa.org/en/Playing-Golf/Quick-Guide-to-the-Rules.aspx

Please be aware that the rules have changed somewhat as per 1 January 2019.  The most important changes can be found here: http://expertgolf.com/en/golf-rules-2019/.  Do note that there is a possibility that a local rule may be enforced so that no   provisional balls will be played from the tee box but we will play our fourth shot from where the ball was lost/went OB.

Scoring:

We are using GameBook for live scoring.  For the newbees, please download the app.

One player in each group will be given the task to post his flights score after every hole.

Regardless of which electronic media we choose to use a paper trail will be produced by the means of an old fashioned score card (yes, those still exists).  A separate person in each flight (from team East) will get the task to record all scores manually on this scorecard.

Sean is IT manager.  Please contact him if you have questions.

RULING IN CASE OF NON COMPLETION OF A ROUND

Should a days competition not be completed for whatever reason (most likely reason will be rain/thunder/

lightning delay and the darkness) the following rules will apply:

  1. 1)       If one or more pairing have not completed 12 holes, then the competition of that day will be deemed cancelled

for all groups and zero points will be awarded.

  1. 2)        If all pairings finish 12 holes, then the number of holes concluded when play is abandoned will count even if one

or more pairings have not completed all 18 holes.

So, if one flight have completed 16 holes, one have completed 17 holes and the rest have completed 18 holes

(or as many holes it took to win the match) when play is stopped, the score after 16 and 17 holes respectively

shall count for the flights that ended the game at those holes, and the 18 hole score (or whatever number of

holes it took to finish the match) shall count for the rest of the groups.
